2019 AICCM Textiles SIG Symposium | Australia

Every two years, the Textile Special Interest Group (Textile SIG) of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM) organises an international symposium, providing Australian and international textile conservators with an opportunity to get together, share knowledge and make new connections. The next edition of the Symposium will be held in Sydney on 4-6 February, and is entitled "Fibre to Fabric, Fur, Feather and Finishes". The programme of the event includes speakers from several countries, including Australia, India, New Zealand, Peru, the UK and the US, among others. The first two days of the Symposium will be held at the Sydney Jewish Museum and will involve various speakers presenting their conservation research, treatment developments, interesting case studies and mounting and display techniques. Keynote speaker, Dinah Eastop, is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. She will be presenting two papers, as well as hosting two thought workshops, designed to challenge an experienced conservator’s notion of the profession. As a break out session from current textile research, Lisa Howel from Perfect Form Physiotherapy will run a workshop with exercises for improving posture, specially designed for conservators. The symposium host, the Sydney Jewish Museum, will also take attendees on a tour of their museum and archives. On the final day of the symposium, there will be two optional tours curated by the committee, including the Museum Discovery Centre and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (an ASEMUS member). Registration for the 2019 AICCM Textiles SIG Symposium is now open. For further information and registration, please visit https://aiccm.org.au/civicrm/event/info%3Fid%3D36%26reset%3D1
