Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018 Cultural Capital of Europe

In 2018, Leeuwarden was one of the two European cities selected to be European Capital of Culture. But it’s not just a Frisian celebration; Leeuwarden-Friesland Cultural Capital of Europe 2018 is a national Dutch event with as epicentre Leeuwarden and the province of Friesland.

The "iepen mienskip" (open community) was the theme of the programme: Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018. With more than 800 projects, they showed an open community to the Netherlands and the rest of Europe in 2018; an idiosyncratic and committed community sensitive to and curious about each other’s ideas, opportunities and challenges. By showing their cultural credentials in 2018, they wanted to connect with different communities across Europe.Both online and ‘in real life’.
