CONCEPTS - Consortium for the Co-ordination of European Performance and Theatre Studies

CONCEPTS is a network of educational institutions and professional theatre organisations across Europe which are interested in promoting cooperation through joint projects, both practical and theoretical. It is interested in facilitating links between higher educational institutions, and the theatre professions. It was founded in York in 1991. It has received financial support from : De Montfort University, Yorkshire and Humberside Arts, Kaleidoscope, British Council.

Aims:

  • To create new ways of working together among members, and to be an experimental force to devise new working methods,

  • To be an instrument of communication and information among members, enabling the network's individual actions to become European initiatives involving more than one country,

  • To find ways of relating theatre artists, managers, and structures to those of education in universities and colleges,

  • To look paticularly at the needs of Eastern Europe countries with a view to creating appropriate integrative projects.


Activities:

Promotion of greater cooperation and collaboration in all aspects of European Performing Arts (live and recorded), particularly in the area of professional training, higher education, production, performance, criticism and research,
Compiling a database detailing educational and theatre opportunities plus current expertise in teaching and performance throughout Europe.
