International Writers’ and Translators’ House (Ventspils House)

House of Language Writers and Translators is a creative centre sets the scene for writers and translators from around the world to meet and work. This house located in the very historic centre of Riga, is part of a network that includes the Baltic Centre for Writers and Translators in Visby, Gotland; the Ledig House in America; the Casa Pantrovà in Switzerland; the Writers’ and Translators’ House in Käsmu, Estonia and many others.

The aim of the establishment of the International Writers’ and Translators’ House (Ventspils House) is to create a multifunctional international writer’s and translator’s centre, which promotes the development of literature, encourages cross-cultural dialogue and introduces the Latvian literary process to international circulation. It also aims to facilitate the decentralisation of the development of literature in Latvia by fostering a suitable cultural environment in regional Latvia.
