Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision

The New Zealand Archive of Film, Television and Sound Ngā Taonga Whitiāhua Me Ngā Taonga Kōrero (Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision) is New Zealand’s audiovisual archive. Their purpose is to hold the nation’s audiovisual heritage in safe keeping and make it widely accessible.

Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision is a charitable trust. They care for an ever-growing collection of nearly 800,000 items that include films, radio, television, sound recordings, props and documents spanning 120 years of Aotearoa New Zealand’s sound and moving image history. The collections include amateur recordings, public broadcasts and commercially released productions. They present a range of perspectives on what it has meant to be a New Zealander across history. Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi. They actively develop relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori organisations to ensure appropriate long-term care of and access to sound and moving image taonga.

Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision was formed by the amalgamation of 3 of New Zealand’s major audiovisual archives: the New Zealand Film Archive Ngā Kaitiaki O Ngā Taonga Whitiāhua, Sound Archives Ngā Taonga Kōrero, and the Television New Zealand Archive.
