The 3rd Asian Children’s Museum Conference, 'Children and Cultural Diversity' is organized by Gyeonggi Children’s Museum in Korea on 29-31 May 2014.  A call for abstracts for presentation at the conference is now open.

This conference is about cultural diversity practices in an imminent culturally varied society, which Koreans are experiencing and learning to cope with. The Korean society, just like other developed countries, has recently encountered a major, yet little noticed transformation from a homogeneous culture to a culturally diverse society.

Unlike the past, many Koreans are experiencing social tensions caused by migrants with diverse cultural backgrounds that Koreans were not accustomed to. Rapid growth of population of foreign migrants has created societal and cultural tension. This has resulted in cultural or racial segregation within the society, deliberate or unconscious. This conference will be one of the best chances to assess the effectiveness of current practices on cultural diversity, to bring on many thoughts of good practices to enhance the understanding of other cultures and to treasure equal rights and to recreate ways to implement effective means.

ACMC, Asia Children’s Museum Conference, was initially organized by Museo Pambata, Philippines in 2008. It was the first conference to encourage a network among children’s museums in Asia, to envision the future of children’s museums and to nurture Asian children through cooperation among children’s museums.

Goal
This conference will focus on various suggestions that can help a homogeneous society successfully turn into a culturally diverse society. How does a children’s museum help promote multi-culturalism in a society? How do we do to establish a multi-cultural society without societal frictions? How do we lead our children to a multi-cultural society without prejudice?

Call for abstracts from selected presenters opens on 1 August, 2013 and closes on 22 December, 2013.
The number of oral presentations will be limited to 40 minutes to each person.
