Japan Foundation | Exhibitions Abroad Support Program

JPFThe Japan Foundation's Exhibitions Abroad Support Program  is designed to support museums and art institutions overseas that organize exhibitions introducing Japanese art and culture to audiences overseas.

Eligibility: Overseas museums and art institutions. Individuals cannot apply. If the exhibition tours to more than one venue, one host shall handle the general application (multiple applications will not be accepted).

Timeframe: The exhibition shall be held between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2015.

Types of projects: Exhibitions introducing Japanese art and culture in museums and art institutions,  or during Biennales/Triennales in foreign countries. Exhibitions can be the outputs of artists in residence programme and are considered as way to network with Japanese and foreign artists, researchers and critics.

Grant covers: Part of the following expenses incurred for:


(1) Packing and shipping costs (excluding insurance costs); (2) Catalogue production costs; (3) Traveling costs for dispatched or invited artists, curators, and specialists (excluding costs travelling for preliminary research and development)


*Please note that this program does not cover production cost of art works, installation cost and artists' fee.


Number of Grants awarded in 2013: 76 out of 108 applications


Deadline for applications: 2 December 2013


Results will be notified April 2014
