Henri Cartier-Bresson International Photography Award

None
The HCB Award is open to photographers of all nationalities who have already completed a significant body of work with an approach close to that of documentary. There is no age limit. Entry by NOMINATION only.

Established to reward “a photographer who has already completed a significant body of work, a talented photographer in the emerging phase of his or her career, with an approach close to that of documentary,” the award grants its recipient a €35,000 cash prize.   The grant is intended to help the photographer carry out a project that he or she would otherwise have difficulty accomplishing within the confines of his or her typical activities.

All photographers are welcome to enter provided they are nominated by a photography institution. Applicants must submit a selection of 15 to 20 photographs with a brief memo from their nominating institution presenting its recommendation. Each candidate should also include a brief memo outlining the project for which he or she wishes to receive the reward.

The winner will be chosen by a 7-member International Jury comprised of prominent figures in photography, literature, art or cinema in June 2013.

The winner will be announced on 25th June, and the resulting project must be completed by September 2014.

Applications from individual photographers will not be considered.

The range of potential institutions which can nominate candidates is broad and has no geographical boundaries: museums, photographic societies, photo agencies, art schools, universities, galleries, magazines, festivals, publishers… are entitled to present a candidate.

Institutions or candidates can download application forms from the website.

Note: applications must be delivered in person or sent by registered mail.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: 15 April 2013
