Tokyo Performing Arts Market

The 14th Tokyo Performing Arts Market (TPAM) is held this year over the four days from Mar. 1 – 4 Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space. This is an arts market that brings together artists and the “presenter” who bring works to the audience, including production staff from theaters and halls, festival directors, producers, agents, promoters, company production staff, etc. With booth exhibitions, video presentations, opportunities for meetings and a schedule of seminars and showcases, etc., the market seeks to promote networking among performing arts professionals and stimulate the performing arts scene. The last holding of TPAM (Mar. 2009) attracted a total of 2,668 performing arts professionals from Japan and abroad.

Also held in conjunction with the market is an International Showcase program (organised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs) in which specialised directors from the various genres choose artist to present. Presented this time are musicians Yasuaki Shimizu and Keiichiro Shibuya, dancers/performers Norimizu Ameya, contactGonzo, Neji Pijin and Line Keikyu, and in theater playwright/director Yukio Shiba, Tokyo Deathlock and CASTAYA Project. In cooperation with organisations including CINARS, Dance Info Finland, Indonesian Performing Arts Mart and the British Council, a number of ambitious works from abroad will also be presented.

TPAM Showcase (Feb. 27 – Mar. 5) is a program of performances in the Tokyo metropolitan area of works chosen by recommendation for the domestic and international presenters attending. Registration is necessary to attend this event.
