A retrospective of Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto is currently taking place at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This exhibition looks back at a career that spans over forty years, through a series of installations that feature sixty of the designer's creations as well as a mixed media timeline. Graphic elements, photographs, performances, and fashion shows have been edited to document Yamamoto's creative process that is known for having pushed fashion's conventional boundaries. The designer is particularly known for his unusual pattern cutting, and the frequent use of the colour black. Additionally, his garments are also presented at other V&A Satellite Spaces such as the Hintze Sculpture Gallery, the Paintings Gallery and the Tapestry Gallery.  Contemporary fashion silhouettes are juxtaposed with historic pieces picked from Britain's cultural heritage, to reveal a few unexpected, yet perhaps deliberate visual connections.
