Masks of Asia | Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
The
Masks of Asia exhibition showcases a part of the
Kwok On collection, an ethnographic collection of more than 10,000 artifacts from the Orient Foundation Museum in Lisbon. It will provide the audience with a vision of Asian masks from various Asian countries, in order to reveal the diversity and beauty of these enigmatic objects that depict animals, divinities and demons in religious rituals and in performances. 250 masks made of different materials (papier-mâché, paper, textile, wood, skin and brass) will be suspended on the walls.
This event is organized as a celebration to mark the 500
th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Thailand, the “Asia Commemorations 2011 Programme” and the Instituto Camões of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Orient Foundation through the Embassy of Portugal and the Portuguese Cultural Centre in Bangkok.
