Hong Kong | Backroom Conversations

None
Asia Art Archive presents 'Backroom Conversations' during ART HK 11 Hong Kong Art Fair, a series of panel discussions in which leading experts and practitioners in the contemporary art field consider regional artistic currents within a global context. New to the programme, the 'Inaugural Burger Collection Keynote Lecture' honours a significant voice in the field today. On Thursday May 26 (6-8pm), The Burger Collection Keynote Lecture recognises an academic voice that has made significant contributions to the field and has the potential to influence regional as well as global perceptions of contemporary art and invites that individual to present his/her ideas in a lecture at ART HK. This year, AAA welcomes Sarat Maharaj, Professor of Visual Art and Knowledge Systems at Lund University and the Malmo Art Academies, Sweden and Professor of History and Theory of Art at Goldsmiths, London from 1980 -2005. Maharaj’s research focuses on cultural translation and difference, visual art as knowledge production, and the ‘convergence’ of image, sound, movement, and consciousness studies. He co-curated Documenta 11 in 2002 and The Third Guangzhou Triennial: Farewell to Post-Colonialism in 2008. Maharaj will give a lecture entitled ‘Sounding Asia Pandemonium’. See AAA website for full series of lectures, conversations and open platform events, with speakers from China, Korea, Europe and further afield.
