Slovak Film Institute

The SLOVAK FILM INSTITUTE (SFI) is the administrator of the film archive which is a special significance archive within the meaning of the law. It comprises all films, frequently unique, made in Slovakia.

The Film Institute executes the rights of the producer to Slovak films made by organisations which are fully and exclusively managed by the state, and it enhances the value of these rights by carrying out business activities.



The National Cinematographic Centre of the SFI comprises the Film Events Department, Editions Department and Audiovisual Information Centre. It is responsible for collating and providing complex information and services related to Slovak cinematography, presenting Slovak films both in Slovakia and abroad, supporting foreign film events in Slovakia and for the publication of general and professional filmological publications within the SFI‘s publishing activities.



The Film Events Department is in charge of presenting Slovak films in Slovakia and abroad. It co-organises screenings of Slovak films within film events in Slovakia and abroad and it is the liaising partner for organisers of film festivals who are interested in presenting Slovak film productions.



The Film Institute publishes the monthly “Film.sk“, which provides film-makers and film audiences with regular information about film events, film reviews, surveys, interviews and articles of interest, is published under the aegis of the SFI.
