Korean Film Archive

Founded in 1974, the Korean Film Archive was set up with objectives of collecting, preserving, and exhibiting films and related documents and materials, and of promoting artistic, historical, and educational development of films. The Film Archive is making continual efforts to collect valuable materials by means of donation, commission, and acquisition. By collecting and preserving films, stills, posters, leaflets, scenarios, movie equipment, videos, audios, film books and publications, and audio materials, the Archive promotes not only film art but also culture in general, while contributing to academic researches in this field. For preservation and management of films, the Korean Film Archive has installed thermo-hygrostats in film vaults to maintain optimum temperature and humidity at all times. Currently, the Archive is working on building database of films and related materials, which is being provided in its website. The Korean Film Archive is the only film-archiving organization that acquires and preserves films as well as visual materials of the nation that, as a part of Korea's precious cultural heritages, have mirrored the past century and still carry historical and cultural value.
