Long Way Home | Asia-Europe Short Story Contest

Online voting is now closed. Congratulations to the winners Leroy Luar (Malaysia) author of The Evidence of Us, and Yordan Radichkov (Bulgaria) author of Container.

Both winners will receive individual cash prizes of SGD 1000 each, as well as flight and accommodation to attend the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in October 2013.

ASEF and the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival would like to give a Special Mention to Nadia Mifsud (Malta/France) for Made in Bangladesh, and Kathrina Haji Mohd Daud (Brunei) for I am a Bird. They were evaluated as the best stories by our panel of judges.

Between 3 July and 3 August, a total of 483 entries were received from Asia and Europe and then evaluated by a professional panel of judges appointed by UWRF. The 10 shortlisted stories are featured below.

The online contest aims to support emerging writers from ASEM member countries and unveil new talents in the literary field from both regions.

Online voting closed on 1 September 2013 (11:59 pm Singapore SGT) and the two stories* with the largest number of social media ‘shares’ were chosen as the winners.

*One story from an Asian writer and one story from a European writer

The shortlisted stories have been selected by a panel of judges appointed by the Ubud Writers& Readers Festival. The views expressed in the shortlisted stories are strictly those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
