This Physical Theatre Residency organized by MADMAN AND ME, will be lead by John Brittton.

The BRIEF for the residency is as follows:

PERFORMING THE NOW!: Performing the Known and the Unknown

All performance is live – in front of a camera, an audience, on the street. While you perform, you have to be live inside your work. If a performer is not fully present, the performance will not be really live.

‘Being live’ is not luck, it is technique – technique based on reaction, openness, fearlessness and confidence.

This residency is going to help you develop techniques of liveness and presence.

Training through physical improvisation, the residency will look at the meeting between improvised and rehearsed work – between the expected and the unexpected – so that you, the performer, develop your skills in keeping performance really spontaneous – however carefully rehearsed it is.

We will develop the physical and mental disciplines that allow us to perform our work always ‘for the first time’, even if the work is something we have performed a hundred times before.
